Oh and I hope you can brief well too, because you'll do alot of that. Just be prepared to make endless powerpoints and excel files and sift through hundreds of reports. Its helps you significantly when you get out due to the skills you learn and the clearance you get (depending on where you live.) Would I recommend it? Sure, if thats the type of job you want. If you want a less-kinetic type job, and seeing as you were prior infantry, it would be a nice change of pace where you can really put use alot of your brainpower and analytical skills. If you are with a BCT and a line unit (scout, infantry) you can probably get some time outside the wire too. When deployed things differ, you spend alot of time going through reports, controlling ISR, building powerpoints, briefing, and BUILDING POWERPOINTS. We only went to the field for mandatory type things (range, STX, etc) It gets quite boring, typical office "9-5" type ordeal. While Conus, you'll basically do tedious office work, processing security clearance paperwork, physical security, and working in an S-2 shop. You sleep in bays/dorms(unless a MOS-T), wake up, do PT, then go to class all day, graduate, go off to your duty station. If you get stuck with a BCT, then you'lll more than likely go to either a BSTB or a line unit (I was with a FA unit for about 4 years.) If you go to a more intel-driven base or unit than things will be significantly different.ĪIT is basically like college. Use the report button.įormer fox here (5 years active with 2 deployments), alot of it depends on where you go and what kind of unit you get stuck with.
